EAST OF TAMPA | FRIDAY, JULY 24, 2026

Good morning, East of Tampa family.

Seventeen days until the first bell, and Mother Nature picked today to remind everybody why we live somewhere with air conditioning. Today's forecast high is 97, which would tie or break the record for July 24 that's stood since 1987. Not a typo. It is somehow still possible to set a heat record in Tampa in July.

HER FOURTH KID TAUGHT HER MORE THAN HER FIRST CLASSROOM DID

Before the weekend lineup, the sponsor who's earned the top spot.

Dionne Cona spent two decades doing what most of you are doing right now: hiring a cleaner, getting burned on consistency, hiring a different one, getting burned again. She was a teacher before she was a business owner, and she's raising four kids in Brandon, Riverview, and Valrico while running Maid Pure Cleaning Services. Her reasoning for starting the company is one sentence: "I can do better."

So she did. Maid Pure is bonded and insured, every cleaner is background-checked and trained, the products are eco-friendly and pet-safe, and if you're not happy, they come back within 24 hours and make it right. 250-plus local families use them regularly, from Apollo Beach to Plant City.

Seventeen days out from the first bell, your house is about to get a lot messier before it gets quieter. This is the week to hand that off to someone who's lived both sides of it.

Locals doing business with locals.

🚧 ONE PRACTICAL HEADS-UP

South Kings Avenue's overnight closures wrap up tonight. Don't get comfortable. Starting this morning, a new daytime pattern kicks in between Buckhorn Creek Road and Ronele Drive: northbound shifts to the west side of the road, lanes reduced in both directions, for the next three to four weeks. The cones aren't going anywhere.

Two more worth knowing if you're near them: Victoria Street stays closed to through traffic between Meade and North Kings while construction continues (Brandon High's teacher lot closes Tuesday, staff shift to the student lot), and Boyette Road at Hammock Crest starts tunnel prep Monday, so expect brief delays around equipment deliveries.

🍕 DINNER'S HANDLED

Stoner's Pizza Joint, Bloomingdale. Allison and Kevin run it. Thin crust, buffalo chicken is the move, and the half-baked cookies should honestly come with a warning label. On a 97-degree Friday, nobody's turning the oven on at home. Let them do it. Order here | 813-436-0016

🎉 AROUND TOWN

Clean Ice. If you run a restaurant or bar, everyone in Hillsborough is ordering cold drinks this weekend and your ice machine is running flat out. Torone Samuels handles commercial ice machine cleaning, the kind of maintenance that becomes a health inspector problem when it's skipped. cleanyourice.com | 786-933-5947

Mark your calendar: free backpacks, one Saturday from tomorrow. August 1, 9 a.m. to noon, Hillsborough County Fairgrounds in Dover, the Back 2 School Bash hands out backpacks and school supplies (while they last, no registration needed), plus 100-plus vendor booths and bounce houses for the kids. If your family needs it, it's there. If it doesn't, this is a good one to forward. Details
