Today is Juneteenth.
June 19, 1865. Word finally reached Galveston, Texas. The last enslaved Americans learned they were free. Two and a half years late. But they celebrated anyway.
That moment didn't just mark the end of something. It marked the beginning. Families rebuilt. Communities formed. A country slowly, imperfectly, kept moving forward.
I'm lucky. I get to raise my kids in one of the most diverse communities in Florida. I get to coach kids from all kinds of backgrounds on the same field, working toward the same goal. I see every week what happens when people from different places and different stories show up together. It makes us better. Every time.
Diversity isn't a talking point. It's a strength. And East of Tampa has it in abundance.
